9/13/2023 0 Comments Moving and becoming a minimalist![]() ![]() I mindfully washed, folded, and donated all the rest. So, with the baby now I have used Marie Kondo's 'spark joy' method, and have kept a capsule wardrobe of stuff I actually like, and treated myself to a very few new basics, and choosing clothes is a joy. I saved everything for my second and then took years before actually having another baby due to infertility, so when it all came back out from the attic (after weighing on me for years), I was shocked at how much crap there actually was. ![]() She had SO MANY CLOTHES! I'd root through to find the same ones anyway, and anytime my husband was sent to get something he'd end up with the stuff that was too small or that I didn't like, because actually only about 10% of the clothes were things I actually wanted to use, and the sheet volume meant the switchover to the next size was a massive job that I kept putting off. Something had to be justified to be thrown away rather than kept. First time round I'd accept so many second hand clothes from friends, and keep everything that was 'fine'. It’s usually toys he’s outgrown that he picks to get rid of. When he really wants something he knows to do this. Now that he’s older we donate/discard a laundry baskets of toys for one toy he wants. This was time consuming but let’s be honest, we all need to play with our kids a little more. If he didn’t pay any attention to the toy outside the gate we donated it. If he went to the gate to try and get it we gave it back to him. Last, decluttering, when he was a baby we used to put his play gate up and put toys outside of the gate. Black, grey, red and navy are the color choices so anything can go with anything. We still usually go through those two weeks of clothes in a week but any more and it’s just too much work to keep up with. Zoos, childrens centers, theme parks, play places make great ideas to give.Īs for clothing, he gets two weeks worth of clothes. for Christmas he gets a zoo pass every year and really looks forward to going to the zoo as often as we do. We prefer passes and experiences and they do excellent at this if I give them a specific activity. On holidays and birthdays they can buy him as much or little as they want but if he doesn’t actually play with it I will donate it. It gives him something new and fun to do while visiting. Toys, clothes, candy, etc, I literally do not care as long as it stays at their home. Grandma/grandpa/whoever can buy him anything they want. My son will be 6 here soon but I’ll give you our ground rules. ![]()
